Case Presenters Overview

Case Presenters are used to display the case information.  Cortex has several different case presenters which display the case information in different ways. Depending upon the case content and how you would like to view the case content, select the case presenter that best suits your needs. Some of the presenters are dedicated to specific products and are not available to portal users or general Cortex users. They are listed below to show you other options that have been designed for Cortex.

Some of the items to consider when selecting a case presenter are listed in the chart below.  You may click on the Presenter name to be taken to example of how the presenter displays the information.

  • Script based: Some presenters use a "script" or defined order in which to display the information.  This allows you to define how the information is displayed on the screen.

  • Text items: Some presenters have limitations for displaying the text items for the case.

  • Questions: Some presenters will display questions in the case but only if enabled for that presenter.

  • Images and DICOMS: Some presenters display only DICOMS but some display both raster images and DICOM studies.

  • Displays Annotated Images: Some presenters will link the image and annotated image and allow users to toggle back and forth between the two images.

  • Image Captions: Image captions are available on most presenters.

  • Case Summary: The case summary (basic information on how the user answered the questions on the case) are available on some presenters.

  • Preferred Editor: Cortex uses several different types of case editors. The preferred editor is the easiest editor to use for that particular case presenter.


Presenter Name: Teaching File (TF)

The Teaching File presenter displays the text case information in a tabular format where the user is able to select the tab to view the text information on the case. Multiple images can be viewed by selecting the thumbnail of the desired image which is displayed next to the text area.

  • Script Based: No

  • Preferred Editor: Teaching File Editor (TFEdit)

  • Text Items Available: Only the first text item for each category will be displayed.

  • Questions:  Questions must be enabled using the TF Editor to display. Detection type questions cannot be displayed at this time.

  • Display both Images and DICOMS: Displays all Images (JPEG, PNG) and DICOM studies in TF Presenter group of the images tab.

  • Displays Annotated Images: Yes - User toggles between image and annotated image.

  • Image Captions: Captions are displayed from Images tab of case.

  • Uses Image Templated Items: No

  • Case Summary Displayed: No

Presenter Name: Case Script

Case Script presenters use a script to display the case items in user defined order. Text and images/DICOMs are displayed on the page in a single column. Side by side display for a question and image can be done by using the Image Question templated item. Multiple text, questions and images can be displayed on one page. User has the option to select a white or dark background.

  • Script Based: Yes

  • Preferred Editor: New Case Wizard (NCW)

  • Text Items Available All scripted text items will be displayed.

  • Questions All scripted questions will be displayed.

  • Display both Images and DICOMS: Scripted Images (JPEG, PNG) and DICOM studies using either single image or templated items.

  • Displays Annotated Images: Annoted images can be placed in a templated items viewer and displayed on a separate page. There is no toggle between image and annotated image.There is no toggle between image and annotated image. Here 'Annotated' images are considered as regular images.

  • Uses Image Templated Items: Yes

  • Image Captions: Captions displayed using image viewer templated items.

  • Case Summary Displayed: Yes

Presenter Name: Edge

Edge presenter use a script to display the case items in user defined order. Any scripted page will display the text/questions in one column and the image in a second column, if both items are scripted for the page. If more than one text item or question is scripted for a page, the items will be displayed individually with the user selecting the Next button to view the next text or question for the page. User has the option to display the images on the left/right column as well as background color options.

  • Script Based: Yes

  • Preferred Editor: New Case Wizard (NCW)

  • Text Items Available: All scripted text items will be displayed.

  • Questions: All scripted questions will be displayed.

  • Display both Images and DICOMS: Only the 1st single image or templeted item from the script is displayed here. Scripted Images (JPEG, PNG) and DICOM studies using either single image or templated items.

  • Displays Annotated Images: Annotated images will be placed in a templated items viewer and displayed on a separate page. There is no toggle between image and annotated image. Here 'Annotated' images are considered as regular images.

  • Image Captions: Captions displayed from Images tab of case.

  • Uses Image Templated Items: Yes

  • Case Summary Displayed: Yes

Presenter Name: Simple Question

Simple Question displays the case questions and images in a specific format with questions on the left and images on the right. References for the case are automatically displayed after answering.

  • Script Based: Yes

  • >Preferred Editor: CPI Itemwriter

  • Text Items Available: No

  • Questions: All script based questions are displayed.

  • Display both Images and DICOMS: Uses Findings Viewer templated item.

  • Displays Annotated Images: Displayed with other images using the Findings Viewer. If the case is created from CPI item writer then Annotated images and references are displayed only after the question is answered.

  • Image Captions: Captions displayed using Findings Viewer.

  • Uses Image Templated Items: Yes

  • Case Summary Displayed: Yes

Presenter Name: PS 360

Displays the case DICOM. No questions or text available. Only works in Simulation product at this time.

  • Script Based: No

  • Preferred Editor: Advanced Edit

  • Text Items Available: No

  • Questions: No

  • Display both Images and DICOMS : DICOM Only - Multiple DICOM studies can be displayed in case.

  • Displays Annotated Images:No

  • Image Captions: No

  • Uses Image Templated Items: No

  • Case Summary Displayed: No


Presenter Name: Learning File

Specific for Learning File product. Learning File presenter displays case text information and case images and DICOMs. Cases may have questions added. Learning FIle is available by subscription only.

  • Script Based: No

  • Preferred Editor: Learning File Edit (LF Edit)

  • Text Items Available: Yes

  • Questions: Questions must be enabled for the case using Learning File Editor. Only Multiple Choice, Check all that apply and True or False Question can be added from LF Edit.

  • Display both Images and DICOMS: Multiple images and DICOMs studies can be displayed but must be in the TF Presenter Group of the Images tab.

  • Displays Annotated Images: User toggles between image and annotated image.

  • Image Captions: Captions displayed from the Images Tab of case. Allows user to define and display both image caption and annotated image caption.

  • Uses Image Templated Items: Uses Findings Viewer.

  • Case Summary Displayed: No but there is a summary if the case includes questions

Presenter Name: WIDI

Specific for WIDI product. Simulation platform to be used for assessments. DICOM study is displayed with patient information and case history. No questions or text items besides the patient information and history is displayed. Only single DICOM can be displayed. User dictates the case information to be used for grading/scoring.

  • Script Based: No

  • Preferred Editor: WIDI Edit

  • Text Items Available: Findings Text item is mandatory here. Other text items are not displyed on the case viewer.

  • Questions: In Questions tab WIDI findings question is automatically added (NLP). No other case questions are displayed.

  • Display both Images and DICOMS: DICOM Only - Only the first case DICOM study is displayed.

  • Displays Annotated Images: No

  • Image Captions: No

  • Uses Image Templated Items:No

  • Case Summary Displayed: No

Presenter Name: RADS

Specific for RADS products. Displays the RADS term information including images, description and captions. Multiple images can be displayed. Text items are hyperlinked to allow user to move between related RADS terms.

  • Script Based: No

  • Preferred Editor: RADS Edit

  • Text Items Available: Only definition item is displayed.

  • Questions: No - Survey questions may be added to the case by embedding a JotForm link.

  • Display both Images and DICOMS: DICOMS are not currently supported.  Displayed using Findings Viewer templated item.

  • Displays Annotated Images: Annotated images displayed with other images via Findings Viewer.

  • Image Captions:Images captions displayed using Findings Viewer.

  • Uses Image Templated Items: Only uses Findings Viewer.

  • Case Summary Displayed: No
